Fun facts from my roadshow of events in Lithuania! Sometime around 1920, Lithuanian pilots flew from New York to Kaunas (the second largest city in Lithuania) around the Atlantic Ocean carrying manuals about how to play Basketball and Baseball as they got them from the Americans. A few years later, Lithuanians started playing basketball until basketball became one of the favorite sports in the country. Today, the Lithuanian basketball team won the European Championship in 1937, 1939, and 2003.
During the first day of the event program in the capital city, Vilnius, I had the opportunity to meet with Vilniaus prekybos, pramonės ir amatų rūmai (Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Crafts) Almantas Danilevicius and gave a presentation to members of the Chamber on business opportunities in the UAE and recent country’s priorities during this year 2023 which are in fact driving factors for expanding in this market and doing business in the region.
On the following day, I was honored to have the unique opportunity to give an extended pitch in front of members of BNI Amber in Vilnius and meet my fellow BNI members from Lithuania to not only attract the business community to UAE but also explain how we can help them through bespoke solutions for corporates and startups offered by The Corporate Group.
Later in the afternoon, I enjoyed my time spent in one of the vibrant business incubators in Vilnius called ROCKIT Vilnius whereby I was given a tour by Donatas Šumyla showcasing the facility and services offered to Fintech and Tech startups. My tour was followed by my presentation to a few startups who attended the session with growing enthusiasm about how to tackle the UAE as one of the promising international markets for their startups.
Lithuania is one of the Baltic countries located below Latvia and Estonia with a 3 million population. Air Baltic is expected to operate direct flights from Vilnius to Dubai by Nov/23 with the hope of following major airlines from the UAE such as Emirates and Etihad. This will enable the flow of business and tourism between countries with the current non-oil trade flow between the two countries totaling nearly $219 million in 2022, with a growth of 51% compared to the pre-pandemic levels.
