Dubai is accelerating major transport infrastructure projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving connectivity, and promoting sustainable mobility as part of its long-term urban development strategy.
A key initiative is the First Al Khail Street Development Plan, which includes a 15-kilometre elevated three-lane roadway designed to ease congestion in Al Quoz. Construction is scheduled to begin next year, with completion targeted by 2030, reducing peak travel times by up to 50%.
The emirate is also preparing to launch the Etihad Rail Dubai station on 30 September, connecting Dubai with Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Fujairah, while continued expansion of the Dubai Metro will further strengthen public transport across the city.
Additional projects include the development of more than 3,000 kilometres of walkways, along with 110 pedestrian bridges and tunnels, encouraging walking and cycling while improving access to transport hubs.
Under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the city aims to create an integrated, multimodal transport network supported by rail, Metro, feeder buses, shared mobility, and improved first- and last-mile connectivity. Future initiatives such as the Dubai Loop, autonomous transport, electric air taxis, and wider adoption of electric vehicles are also expected to enhance mobility and improve air quality.
Dubai’s long-term vision is for 80% of daily journeys to be made using public transport, with residents able to reach transport stations within 20 minutes by walking or cycling. The strategy is expected to support population growth while creating a more connected, efficient, and environmentally sustainable city.
