Dubai Chamber of Commerce Launches Indonesian Business Council to Boost Economic Ties

DUBAI, 28th February 2025 (WAM) – Strengthening its role as a bridge for international trade, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce has officially launched the Indonesian Business Council, marking a significant step in enhancing economic cooperation between Dubai and Indonesia. This new addition brings the total number of Business Councils under the Chamber’s umbrella to 59, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global business hub.

The Indonesian Business Council aims to foster stronger trade and investment ties, unlock new business opportunities, and enhance collaboration between the two nations. This initiative comes at a time when non-oil bilateral trade between Dubai and Indonesia exceeded AED 10 billion in the first nine months of 2024, demonstrating a thriving commercial relationship. Additionally, the number of Indonesian businesses registered with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce surged by 60% last year, reaching 160 by December 2024.

The Council recently held its first annual general meeting at Dubai Chambers’ headquarters, bringing together members to discuss strategies for strengthening business partnerships. Key topics included organizing bilateral trade events, exchanging market expertise, and identifying new avenues for collaboration to further integrate the Indonesian business community into Dubai’s dynamic economy.

Maha Al Gargawi, Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers, emphasized the crucial role Business Councils play in facilitating cross-border trade. She stated,

“These councils serve as interactive platforms that promote dialogue and foster cooperation between international business communities. Our goal is to empower them with the necessary resources to help companies explore opportunities, build strategic alliances, and contribute to the sustainable growth of Dubai’s private sector.”

Dubai’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Indonesia has been evident through Dubai International Chamber’s representative office in Jakarta, established in 2023. Further solidifying these efforts, a trade mission to Southeast Asia in May 2024 facilitated over 200 bilateral business meetings in Jakarta, connecting 17 Dubai-based companies with key Indonesian enterprises.

One of the mission’s highlights was the ‘Doing Business with Indonesia’ forum, which attracted 472 participants, including senior officials, business leaders, and key industry players eager to explore investment opportunities in Dubai. The overwhelming participation reflects Indonesia’s growing interest in leveraging Dubai’s business ecosystem to expand its global reach.

With the Indonesian Business Council now in place, Dubai continues to position itself as a gateway for international trade, offering Indonesian businesses an enhanced platform to thrive in one of the world’s most vibrant commercial landscapes.
