Dubai has recently inaugurated a specialized facility known as the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), intending to establish itself as a prominent player in the $111 billion artificial intelligence industry. The announcement was made by Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), during a ceremony held at Emirates Towers, AREA 2071.

The recently established Center aims to support governmental organizations in implementing upcoming technologies in crucial industries.

As well as, Dubai is making significant progress in adopting new artificial intelligence and future technologies, keeping up with global technology innovation. Sheik Hamdan has emphasized that this is in line with the directives of Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to position the emirate as a global leader in preparing for emerging opportunities and challenges and shaping the future. Sheik Hamdan has also stated that the government of Dubai is committed to making its various entities the best in the world in deploying artificial intelligence.

Sheik Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council was present at the launch event. The Dubai Center for AI aims to educate over 1,000 government personnel from more than 30 government entities on the applications of generative artificial intelligence. Additionally, it seeks to initiate several pilot projects, enhance government services, boost government employees’ productivity, and assist more than 20 local and international advanced technology startups.

Dubai has significantly emphasized Artificial Intelligence (AI), implementing a range of strategies to encourage its adoption. To ensure the ethical use of AI, the Dubai government has created the Dubai AI Ethics Board and established the Dubai AI Lab to foster innovation in the field. Integrating AI in the healthcare, education, and transportation sectors is expected to enhance efficiency and productivity. Dubai’s dedication to AI development positions the city as a leading player in the global AI landscape.

The Center for AI has been launched as per Sheik Mohammed’s directives to implement advanced AI technologies in various sectors. The productive AI industry is projected to grow from $10bn in 2022 to $110.8 bn by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 34.3 %. By 2025, generative AI will make up 10% of all data produced.

In the healthcare industry, it is anticipated that more than 30 percent of newly developed drugs and materials will be discovered through generative AI techniques in the next two years. The Center for AI aims to accomplish three primary objectives:

  • Creating legislation to support modern technology.
  • Researching the ethical and social implications of generative AI applications.
  • Ensuring their alignment with human and societal values.

The Center for AI will also improve the overall performance of the government sector through various means.

The Center will utilize artificial intelligence to conduct simulations to analyze the effects and consequences of new policies and laws, forecast outcomes of various scenarios, assess the efficiency of programs, and facilitate complex decision-making. Additionally, it will enhance the advancement of government services by anticipating user requirements and inclinations. The Center will establish communication channels to simplify public services and employ tools for data analysis to detect trends and insights that can assist government entities in making well-informed decisions.

The Center for AI is a platform for collaboration between the government, private sector, and academia to develop advanced AI applications and innovative services. It aims to use generative AI to provide superior government services that meet the needs of residents. By partnering with major international technology companies and leading academic institutions, the Center’s initiatives aim to strengthen the city’s position as a regional leader in AI research, development, and innovation.
