UAE in 8th spot on Driverless Readiness Index

As per the KPMG Autonomous Vehicles Readiness Index, UAE improved its previous year ranking by one position to move up to #8 for the year 2020.

The index, launched in the year 2018, has seen the UAE figure in the Top 10 in all its editions. The Government vision to enhance technology and innovation, improvement in overall technology infrastructure and the openness of all stakeholders (including the general public) to accept driverless vehicles were the key points that went in favor of UAE’s performance on the index.

As compared to previous year versions where the focus was on the autonomous vehicles concept, this year the focus moved more into the implementation of the technology. Experts added that this signaled movement of the market into a developmental maturity stage. The sector has also observed many regulations and large scale testing across the world, signaling positive acceptance of the technology in multiple economies.

The UAE Government is progressing on the direction of its strategy to make 25% of its transport autonomous by 2030. Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala investments joined a consortium to invest over $2.25Billion in a self-driving technology company.

The indicators are healthy, and the news comes as a shot in the arm for technology and innovation drivers in the business community.
