UAE Cabinet Approves Law on Consumer Protection

The UAE Government constantly takes initiatives and measures to safeguard the interests of its citizens and residents. Recently, the UAE cabinet approved a federal law to protect the consumers.

The law, which will be integrated legislatively with the GCC Unified Law on consumer protection, aims to provide adequate protection to consumers. This comes specifically in the wake of massive technological advancements and growth seen in the e-Commerce industry.

Stability of prices in line with best practices, limiting any negative practice that affects customers, and the delivery of goods or services in tailored distribution patterns are some of the salient aspects covered under the law.

Through the law, the Government aims to make a free consumer market available for the users, where competition is encouraged in a sustainable manner while providing fair prices for goods and services.

The cabinet also confirmed that the law will cover the regulation of suppliers’ work; the control of price increases under unusual circumstances; and also ensure the implementation of guarantees for goods and services provided by the producer or principal and regulate the e-Commerce work.

In addition to the above, the law will also detail any applicable penalties and grievances in this regard.
