The Dubai Model for Recovery of International Business Events

Key stakeholders and industry leaders convened to transfer knowledge and learnings on the Dubai global events reopening forum.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and as part of the post-pandemic economic recovery steps, the Dubai Government has been one of the first to reopen its boundaries for international tourism. Moreover, large scale events were opened up for local events in September 15th 2020 and for international events in October 1st, 2020.

Some of the events that were conducted in the last 6 months include Gulfood 2021, GITEX Technology Week, Arab Association of Urology National Congress and the MEIDAM Conference. Of these, the GITEX and Gulfood events individually attracted over 50,000 attendees each from over 100 countries. Naturally, the sheer scale of these events, conducted with all precautionary and safety measures, has attracted the attention of all global peers.

In this context, and as a way to formally share the best practices and learnings from last 6 months, the Dubai Government formally launched a forum labelled the Dubai global events reopening forum.

This forum was supported by research commissioned by DWTC and conducted by the independent body GRS Explori. The findings from the research were as follows:

• 96% of all attendees felt the events were safe or providing a safe experience;

• 92% of all respondents (including exhibitors and visitors) rated Dubai as providing the best experience in the
world – due to high safety standards, business experience and opportunities;

• 89% felt that Dubai was the safest destination in the world;

• Over 90% felt very safe during their entire travel experience including air travel (Emirates), Dubai Airports, local transportation and accommodation
