Dubai to Capture 400 Global Events by 2025

As Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city’s official convention bureau, continues to win bids, the city’s business events sector and economy are poised to benefit from another successful year.

DBE has gathered a total of 120 events for 2021 and beyond in collaboration with stakeholders across the public and private sectors. Dubai has become a center of global conversations on recovery of key sectors and professions, innovation, trade, and economic growth thanks to these conferences, meetings, and incentive travel programs featuring nearly 70,000 key opinion leaders, scientists, government officials, and other experts.

Despite ongoing disruptions to the global business events industry, Dubai’s performance in handling the Covid-19 pandemic is largely responsible for its robust performance. The organisers of numerous events recently held in Dubai and those currently in the pipeline chose it as an alternative destination after their original plans elsewhere failed.

Hub of choice for businesses

“Driven by the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the city’s handling of the pandemic and rapid economic recovery continue to be recognized by the global business community. In addition to seeing Dubai become a hub of choice for businesses, associations and talent across a wide range of sectors and professions, this is also resulting in the city standing out as a preferred destination for events of all sizes,” Helal Saeed Almarri, director-general of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, said.

Major events in 2021

The 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 2025 was one major event won in 2021. The event was won by Dubai Business Events (DBE), the UAE chapter of ICOM (ICOM-UAE), Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Dubai Municipality. As part of the associations segment, BIR World Recycling Convention & Exhibition (2022), Asian Congress in Pediatric Nephrology (2023) and Meeting of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (2024) also made an impression during the past year.

As evidenced by the creation of the Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai is increasingly focused on the business events sector. We plan to capture at least 400 global economic events per year by 2025, one of many priorities for the department.

Sales missions in 2022

DBE will conduct nine sales missions throughout the year to reach markets such as India, Europe, China and Latin America, as well as markets where it sees opportunity for growth such as Israel and the Middle East. DBE continues to host study trips to explore the city, while participants from all major trade shows will join us for DBE stand-alone exhibits.

With many events planned in the next few years cycle, it is imperative to plan in advance and be smart on how to expand your business network and to maximize benefits from a growing market.
