Dubai Introduces Smart Travel System; Your Passport is Your Face
Dubai has introduced a Smart Travel system where a passport is not required for immigration.
On the 22nd of February, the advanced integrated biometric contactless pathway at the Dubai International Airport (DXB) was officially launched by the main authorities at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA).
Passengers can check-in for their flight, complete immigration formalities, enter the lounge facilities and board their flights by merely going through the airport because of the advanced biometric technology consisting of facial and iris recognition.
Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, Dubai, stated that, in the future, the passengers can simply stroll out of the airport as there will not be any immigration terminals.
The first and business class check-in counters of Emirates airlines at Terminal 3 have already been set up with the eight smart tunnels. Even at the first and business class departure terminal, the smart tunnel has been set up.
Brigadier Talal Ahmad Al Shanqeti, General Director Assistant of Ports Affairs in GDRFA, Dubai, stated that pre-registered passengers can use the system without any travel documents as 122 smart gates in the departure and arrival halls of Dubai Airports have been upgraded.
Passengers above the age of 17 can use the biometric pathways. Approximately 3000 passengers use the biometric gates regularly. The smart gates were modified for a seamless journey.
