Dubai Commercity – the New Age e-Commerce City

Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) and the Wasl Group have partnered on a large scale project named Dubai Commercity, and is expected to be fully completed by 2023.

The Middle East e-Commerce industry is valued at $26.9 Billion as of 2018, and is expected to grow to $48.6 Billion by 2022, driven largely by UAE and Saudi Arabia, as per a study conducted by BMI Research. According to DAFZA sources, e-Commerce in Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia was growing annually by 24.6% until 2020.

With consumer mindset being directed towards e-Commerce and the heavy investments being made in alignment by large players, the industry analysts feel the e-Commerce sector could be all set for massive growth over the next 4-5 years.

The biggest vision in the e-Commerce space yet, Dubai Commercity is expected to be 2.1 Million sq.ft in area, covering three clusters – business, social and logistics. 12 large sustainably designed buildings will decorate the business cluster. Some popular retailers in the sectors of clothing, jewellery and electronics have already inked agreements with the DAFZA authorities.

Artificial Intelligence would be extensively used across warehouses and retail outlets in the Dubai Commercity, signifying a paradigm shift in the way logistics and retail will be implemented for the future.

The first set of buildings are to be opened by November 2020, and the last phase will be complete by 2023.
