Dubai Tourism Increases by 5.1%

The Dubai Media Office officially released the tourism figures for Dubai in 2019, which saw a 5.1% increase over 2018.

The statement quotes the World Travel & Tourism Council’s 2019 Cities Report, mentioning that Dubai is the 3rd best city in the world for direct international tourism spend. As of 2019, tourism accounts for 11.5% of Dubai GDP. 2020 is also expected to bring a huge influx of tourists from around the world, with Expo 2020 taking center stage in the latter half of the year.

2019 saw close to 16.73 million visitors in Dubai, which gave a 5.1% increase year on year. The top source for attracting tourists was India, with just under 2 million visitors, closely followed by KSA at 1.6 million and the UK at 1.2 million.

The highest increase in tourists was seen from Nigeria, which sourced 246,000 tourists which were 33% more as compared to 2018.

The influx of tourists follows a spate of Government initiatives such as the introduction of the 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa, and the waiver of tourist fees for children under the age of 18 accompanied by parents.
