Aligning to the UAE’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and as part of its initiative to enhance sustainability efforts and environmental resilience, Dubai aims to double green spaces in the city and propel Dubai into the top 10 ranked cities for sustainability by 2033.
The authority, led by Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani as Director-General, will focus on promoting sustainable practices across various sectors, preserving biodiversity, and expanding natural reserves and green spaces.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, emphasized Dubai’s dedication to environmental resilience. The authority will implement strategic programs to optimize resource usage, conserve biodiversity, develop the green economy, and reduce carbon emissions.
Key priorities include expanding green cover by 100%, increasing protected areas by 60% by 2040, conserving water resources, and implementing sustainable waste management policies. The authority will also focus on climate change mitigation, enhancing air quality, and promoting green finance initiatives.
